Air Popcorn Machines
Air popcorn machines are relatively new to the popcorn popping community. Created in the 1970s, air popcorn machines do not use oil, but instead distribute very hot air among the kernels. Air popcorn machines are perhaps the healthiest way to pop corn. By using hot air alone, you eliminate the need for oil resulting in an even healthier snack which is lower in fat and naturally high in fiber. In fact, a large bowl of air popped corn can have as little as 300 calories. Then, if you add butter, salt or other flavorings it adds more calories to your snack and makes your popcorn less healthy. Another great advantage of air popcorn machines is that the hot air circulates evenly throughout the machine which leaves fewer popcorn kernels unpopped when compared to microwave popcorn and more conventional popcorn machines which use oil to pop the popcorn.
It's these benefits that have made hot air popcorn machines more popular than popcorn machines using oil to cook their popcorn. Another great thing about these machines is that since air popcorn machines only use hot air to pop the kernels, there is little to no chance of burning the popcorn. Many air popcorn machines push the popped kernels out of a spout at the top while the kernels beneath it are still cooking. Air popcorn machines are also great because they are easy to clean and require very little maintenance overall. Air popcorn machines are also relatively inexpensive, making them a perfect addition to any home.
Air popcorn machines are also starting to gain popularity in commercial use. The biggest advantage to the vendor is because since air popcorn machines don't use oil there is no need to constantly refill it, leaving their staff able to focus on customers and other tasks more than on cooking the popcorn.
Hot air popcorn poppers are fairly economical, light weight and easy to use but the absence of hot oil doesn't necessarily make them any safer. Hot air can burn just as badly as oil so caution is advised. Be sure to keep children away from the machine while the kernels are popping, as little fingers reaching up into the machine to catch popcorn kernels can cause burns as well as extremely hot kernels shooting out of the machine. Always read your instruction manual before using, and children should always use with the supervision of an adult. Since air popcorn machines are so economical and provide great healthy snacks, they make for ideal gifts. Buying a hot air as a gift for anyone that loves popcorn is a great idea, and they are available for purchase in many places.
